The Tool You Need Beyond Workouts & Nutrition

Workouts & Nutrition

I was thinking about something the other day, sparked by a conversation I had with a friend…. She’s lost some weight and now in maintenance. We were discussing the things she still needs to “focus on” like Workouts & Nutrition and staying active…. But one thing I think most people miss is managing your mood.

Managing your mood is critical if you want to maintain a healthy body weight.

Think about it: when are you most likely to go off of your plan and eat some extra calories… or skip a workout?

When your mood is πŸ’©

NOBODY decides to eat a whole sleeve of Oreos and sit on the couch when they’re feeling GREAT!

It happens when you’re stressed, mad, sad, etc….

So, managing your mood is critical for the success of your weight loss journey.

Getting your mindset right every single day is going to help with this.

Here is where I tell my clients to start:

  1. Start every day by writing and reciting a positive mantra. Don’t have one? Google “positive mantra” or “positive daily intention” and find one that resonates with you.
  2. Put this mantra on sticky notes and leave in places you view frequently. Like on your computer, phone, car dashboard, fridge, bathroom mirror. Make that message something you see scores of times each day
  3. In moments you feel stressed, do your best to take a few deep breaths and remind yourself of this mantra.

Now this is not some sort of MIRACLE that will keep you from ever feeling stressed or mad again… No.

Rather, it’s a helpful tool to teach you to take a moment of mindfulness and think about the best and healthiest ways to manage your emotions and mood. This will keep you from making choices that fly in the face of your health and wellness goals.

Keep in mind: just like any other skill [learning a language, playing an instrument, etc] this skill takes time to develop. It takes repetition and consistency to really get great at it. Keep at it, and over time, I promise you – you’ll have a super strong πŸ’ͺ Mental Muscle 🧠

Give this a try and let me know how it goes!
