This Is Why You Can’t Lose Weight

A video still of a man in a gym demonstrating an exercise that targets the arms and lats.

I gotcha with that title, didn’t i??
well, good!
Because I have something important to point out… that, if you can take it in rather than get defensive about it, you can completely turn your weight loss journey around.

Ok here goes:
When you eat an extra cookie, your shitty mindset immediately tells you that you just became a failure as a human being.
You tell yourself you didn’t have enough willpower.
You tell yourself you are so bad.
You tell yourself you fucked up.
You tell yourself you will never be able to do this weight loss thing.
You tell yourself all sorts of horrible and UNTRUE shit.
Before you know it, you’ve rationalized the fact that you’re a failure and that the best course of action is just to eat all the cookies in sight, because you’re all done with trying to lose weight.

Sound familiar?

Then, a month later, you are so frustrated with the way your clothes fit and the way you look in pictures that you decide to get back on the bandwagon again.
You tell yourself “this time it will be different! This time i am going to be so good and not eat any of that junk!”
You do well for a while, and then…… someone puts a plate of cookies in front of you……

And so goes the cycle.

The solution??
No, its not to exist without cookies.

It’s your MINDSET.
With a positive mindset, you’ll realize a cookie is just a cookie and move on.
You won’t associate your self-worth with whether or not you eat an Oreo.
You won’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, as they say, and quit your whole weight loss journey.
You won’t have the “fuck it” mindset that causes you to eat cake, candy, ice cream, and fudge along WITH all the cookies.

You’ll have eaten a cookie. That’s like 100 calories.
That’s it.
Moving along….. 100 extra calories is laughable in the grand scheme of things.

The difference between eating 100 extra calories and gaining 10 extra pounds is your MINDSET.
So stop ignoring it.
Work to strengthen it just as hard as you do those abs.
