To kick off the week, I am sharing some important things to consider if you want to build your self-confidence.
As an aside, one time in college a professor asked our entire class “if you could give your future child 1 thing only, what would it be?”
There were lots of different answers like money, a house, a happy life, etc.
My answer was self-confidence.
I happened to have the same answer as the professor and she asked me why I chose that.
My response was “because when you have confidence in yourself you can have, be, or do anything you want.”
So, you can see- this topic is one that has meant a lot to me since I was about 19 or 20.
What I’ve learned since then is this: Your worth comes from your work.
When you make promises to yourself and then follow through on them – especially the ones that aren’t public but rather done in private – is exactly what builds your self-worth & self-esteem.
You essentially teach yourself that your word is solid. Your words are to be listened to and respected because they mean something.
See, most people incorrectly think that when they lose the weight or hit a certain number on the scale, THEN they’ll have the confidence in themselves. But that sort of thinking is backwards.
It’s making small promises to yourself – starting today – like eating single green vegetable at lunch and dinner, or going for a 5 minute walk.
When you complete those things and check that box, your self-esteem grows just a tiny bit.
“hey! I did it. It was a small thing, but I did it.“
Repeating this every day, and making the promises just a little bigger over time to expand the level of challenge is the true recipe to unshakable confidence.
Take a chance on yourself today and make a promise to do something…. it’s the first step in becoming the person you were always meant to be.
