
There’s just something about jam-packing a calendar with one event after another, sometimes double booking yourself….
….adding in time for shopping, wrapping, cooking, decorating….
….oh and then holding a job, taking care of family responsibilities, and making nice with certain family members during get-togethers….
WHEW- I got stressed just writing that out!
One way I combat the stress is by doing one thing for myself daily.
It doesn’t have to be overly time consuming or complicated… simply doing one thing that is for me, only me, and with me in mind.
It’s all about putting yourself at the forefront of everything else… if only for a few minutes per day.
Keeping this simple habit consistent can really stave off the self-destructive behaviours that can stem from too much stress.
- Overeating or seeking out highly processed junk
- Drinking alcohol in excess
- Avoiding exercise
- Engaging in negative self-talk, especially regarding body image
For me, this one thing per day is usually something like meditation, writing daily gratitudes, setting an intention for my day, breath work, working out, reading or reciting a mantra.
For you, it can be anything where you are able to mentally disconnect and focus on being in the moment & your own physical state.
The minimum effective dose is 1 minute per day.
Not much.
Anyone can do it.
That means you.
Try setting a reminder, alarm, or other external source of stimuli so that you don’t forget to take a minute, or two or 10 for yourself.
Give this exercise a shot…aim to do it daily throughout the holiday season & I guarantee you’ll be in a better state of mental, physical, and emotional being!
