He’s 2 years old and loves this special treat for breakfast.
We sat in the kitchen around 9am, listened to Bob Marley, and enjoyed a wonderful meal together.
It was certainly special, cherished time… and was out of the ordinary for what breakfast usually looks like for me.
My more normal routine would be to eat my 1st meal of the day around 10am, after following a 12-14 hour fast overnight.
I typically choose a fat & protein focused breakfast like eggs and ½ avocado, or some almond butter.
(this breakfast is also one that I share with Chase most mornings)
Why am I telling you this?
Because I think this is a perfect illustration of the “80/20 Rule” that we teach at Lucky13Fitness.
80% of the time eat wholesome, healthy foods… and 20% of the time enjoy treats that fall outside of that description.
This approach takes away any feelings of deprivation or shame around “cheat” meals.
It’s simply a built-in, balanced way to enjoy treat foods/drink while still living a healthy and fit life.
For me, it also allows me to say YES to my son when he asks for french toast for breakfast at 9am.
I didn’t have an ounce of guilt that my breakfast was a more carb-heavy, less fat/protein based meal that happened an hour before I typically eat.
I didn’t have to immediately think about how to “undo” the “cheat” crime that I committed.
I would never want to associate any of those negative feelings with a meal shared with my son.
Instead, it was a treat that falls right into my overall plan.. And I was able to enjoy it 100%.
And afterward I got right back on track with a healthy lunch.
What special treats or experiences do you want to incorporate into your life?
Consider using the “80/20 Rule” as a healthy & balanced way to enjoy them while still working toward looking and feeling your best!
