I immediately wrote down what she said, and told her that she pretty much hit the jackpot with that statement. Here’s why I think that statement is so powerful:
Familiar things are comforting in life… you know what to expect, what’s expected of you, and you pretty much know how things will turn out. This is even the case when the outcome isn’t so wonderful. For example, you stay in a relationship / job / social circle even when it no longer makes you happy or fulfilled. You trudge along, day in and day out, without ever really feeling wonderful about it. You might even be downright miserable. It seems so counterintuitive but it happens all the time.
Maybe you’re even nodding your head ‘cuz it’s happened (or is happening) to you. The reason humans do this is because they find comfort in what they already know, even if it’s not ultimately fulfilling their potential. It’s sad, quite frankly. You could go through your entire life living like that - without ever feeling truly happy or fulfilled - unless you’re willing to do 1 thing.
Change.
You will never truly grow if you aren’t willing to embrace change. Sure, change is hard. Change is scary. Change can challenge every fiber of your being. Just think about all of the ways we’ve had to adapt and change in the past year or so….
So change won’t be a walk in the park, but it will always result in growth.
The lesson here?
If you want to take your body / career / life to the next level - if you want to fulfill the potential that lies within you- and if you want to do what it is that you were put on this Earth to do, you must be willing to step out of your comfort zone.
You must be willing to risk everything for the possibility of something greater. And if that scares the $#!t out of you… GOOD! It should! Don’t do it alone….enlist help from people you trust to help you make 1 change at a time.
