A horrible tragedy struck Boston, Massachusetts yesterday. A coward attempted to dim the light of a city, an event, and tens of thousands of people by planting two bombs that exploded near the Boylston Street finish line. Well, coward, I’ll tell you this: YOU FAILED MISERABLY. You may have wreaked havoc on an amazing city (my home town) on one of its proudest and most jubilant days of the year, but you did not (and will NEVER) succeed in breaking the spirit of anyone in this great city. You may have detonated two bombs that shattered people’s lives forever, but you did not shatter the spirit of love, prayer & hope that this city embodies. You may have taken the lives of three innocent people, but you will never take the memories they leave behind. In fact, you left us with three angels above, to watch over, care for, and love those of us still on Earth at a time we need it most.
I am still in shock of what happened, I can not even fully react yet because the whole thing is so incomprehensible. All I can say is that I feel so blessed that my family and friends are safe. I realize that not everyone in this great city can say that today. For them, my heart breaks. I send love, prayers, support, and hope to all of those directly affected by yesterday’s tragedy. As a fitness professional who is always pushing people to act/think/do/be outside of their comfort zone, I must give thanks and love to all of the brave first responders yesterday. Police, firefighters, military personnel, volunteers, spectators, and the runners themselves…. The people who ran to help others as soon as the first explosion happened, not knowing if another would occur. The actions of those people are truly heroic.
I feel compelled to do something to help in the wake of this terrible tragedy. Aside from donating blood within the next few days, I have also decided to donate 100% of the proceeds from Lucky13Fitness t-shirt sales from 4/16/13 – 4/22/13 to the American Red Cross relief for the Boston Marathon tragedy. While there is a limited supply of t-shirts at our Lucky13Fitness office, another order is being placed with our supplier. Please note that even if your order gets listed as “back ordered”, as long as you make your purchase between 4/16/13 – 4/22/13, the proceeds from your purchase will go toward the American Red Cross donation. Please consider purchasing a t-shirt and helping those in need. Follow this link to purchase.Again, I send prayers and love to all of my fellow Bostonians, and hope that we can recover to be stronger with every passing day.
