“The mundanity of excellence.”
Thousands of iterations of the question “what does it take to be excellent?” have been uttered by nearly everyone on the planet, at one time or another, in search of information that would help them become better.
Such questions in the fitness realm probably sound familiar to you:
“What are the best ways to lose fat?”
“What foods should I eat to lose weight?”
“What kind of exercise should I be doing to get toned?”
….and the list goes on.
Perhaps you’ve asked these questions yourself.
Often what people are searching for in an answer is something they’ve not heard before….something they might have missed when they asked the question the last 10 times.
They’re hoping to find some wild, over-the-top crazy diet or exercise plan….some new fad or method du jour…..that will finally work for them. They seek out difficult new workouts that leave them feeling broken. They try different “diets” that wreak havoc on their body, inside and out.
In short, people go to great lengths to find these sufferfests and terrible struggles because that’s what they feel they need to do in order to succeed. And, when they don’t succeed, they have the perfect setup for labeling themselves as weak, a failure, or completely incapable (and undeserving) of ever having the body/life they desire.
But, as Angela’s quote reminds us- there’s a mundanity to becoming excellent.
When we accept the fact that excellence is achieved by doing “the small stuff” consistently, day in and day out, we will have finally found the true secret to success.
