Troy emails me every Monday when he’s done with his home workout… It's part of the accountability plan we set into place for him to build another workout day into his really busy schedule.
You’re probably assuming that his email said something like “I did my workout…even did an extra set of everything” and that’s why I loved it.
Nope.
Exactly the opposite.
Troy emailed to tell me that he had a $#itty workout and really was feeling blah….
He was feeling unmotivated and his knee was bothering him.
WHY THE HELL would this be the best email I’ve received in a long time?!
Because of a few key points that stood out to me immediately as a coach:
- His consistency. He wasn’t feeling 100%, not even close… yet he kept his commitment to the time slot and to himself.
- He did the best he could with what he had. He didn’t have the closed mindset of thinking it had to be perfect or nothing.
- He emailed just the same. He didn’t shy away from checking in when it wasn’t a “win.” He shared his truth when it wasn’t pretty. He stayed consistent with sending the email, which is a great sign for overall success.
- He looked forward with positivity. He ended the email by saying he would give his best in his personal training session the following morning.
All of this is HUGE for the overall big picture and predictors of long term success.
I share this in hopes that it illustrates the reality that “success” isn’t always about losing 10+ lbs on the scale, getting PR’s in the gym, or some other huge gesture.
More often, success shows up in tiny ways, when you take consistent action daily & work the plan.
