She said to me "well, I know there are a ton of other places around, but I think Lucky13Fitness is the BEST training studio in the Burlington area!"
And, to be honest, I was flattered and SO HAPPY to hear that she loves her experience with us that much!
But, as I was driving home later that afternoon, I got to thinking...
What the heck does "the best" even mean?
Best for who or for what?
I mean if your goal is to workout in the most prestigious, beautiful, fully-equipped gym in the area then nothing can top Lifetime Fitness (located about a mile up the road from us).
If Crossfit style workouts are your jam, well since there's only one of those in town it must be the best.
If training for an obstacle run is is important to you then Tough Mudder Bootcamp is probably going to be your best choice.
Want large group training? There are a few options for that. We're not on that list.
Want 1:1 or semi-private personal training? There are a few options for that around, and I do feel we ARE the best in town...IF you're our ideal client.
Ideal Client.
That's the key right there.
There is no one "best" place to train for everyone.
Each facility caters (or should, if they understand business) to their ideal client. After all, if you try to be for everyone then you're actually for no one...and that's not going to be a very successful business...
So, who is Lucky13Fitness "the best" for?
Lucky13's ideal clients are people who have tried to achieve their fitness goals on their own, only to end up where they started....or maybe even worse off.
They've tried workouts at home, or they've signed up at a big box gym only to end up "making a monthly donation" because they never go.
Fat loss (definitely an area of proven expertise for us) is often, but not always, an initial goal, but ultimately long-term health & happiness is the most important outcome for them.
Our ideal clients want to feel better & more confident in themselves.
They want more energy, and to feel stronger so that they can play with their kids, care for aging family members, and continue to do the things that they enjoy, even as they get older.
Our ideal clients know that "eating better" and "exercising more" is what will help them achieve their goals, but they need support, accountability, and encouragement to stay consistent and do things efficiently and effectively.
They appreciate the education & support we provide (in and out of sessions) and value having a coach, not just a trainer or an instructor telling them how many reps to complete. They want to learn and move at their own pace, doing their own thing... yet still fit in to a community of like-minded people.
They realize that having "six pack abs" isn't the ultimate goal, and don't need to feel "so sore that it hurts" in order for a workout to be effective.
Our clients are not looking for rapid fat loss, or the next fitness "gimmick" - they're committed to doing developing habits that last, and transforming their body and life for the long run
They love the sense of community we foster, and feel comfortable knowing they will only be supported and uplifted while inside our studio.
I suppose, ultimately, our ideal clients resonate and align with what we're about, how we approach things, our "Why Factor" for doing what we do, and our philosophy.
So, for those people, I'd say Lucky13Fitness IS, indeed, the BEST personal training studio in Burlington.
For anyone else, not so much...
Look, every fitness business has its pros and cons. We each have our "edge" and we each are the "right fit" for someone.
Make sense?
OK. Now, go find fitness studio/gym that you feel is best for YOU.
